Janet Maitland - Hairdressing in India

Thu, Jan 16th 2014 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

A most unusual talk!

Janet, the proprietor of hairdressing salons in the Durham area, became involved with the Shaping Futures charity operated by Schwarzkopf, the manufacturer of hairdressing products.  As a result, she has spent time in India in (among other locations) the SOS Children's Village in Chennai.  These villages provide a "safe haven" for orphaned or abandoned children in many countries around the world, giving them quality education and health care in a loving family environment.  The Shaping Futures initiative provides some of these children with a vocational skill to enable them to prosper when they leave the villages at the age of 18.

Janet gave us a vivid and amusing description of her experiences in India and is proud of the fact that she has been appointed the UK Ambassador for Shaping Futures.
