Durham City Centre Youth Project

Our speaker, Neil Charlton, is the chairman of the trustees of the Durham City Centre Youth Project (DCCYP), a charity established in 1967 and one of the oldest youth projects in County Durham.  It provides a range of new experiences and opportunities, both social and educational, for 13 to 25 year-olds from the Durham area.
Some of us, at least, were surprised when Neil told us of the groups of young people who throng around the bus station and other locations along North Road in Durham each weekend.  So DCCYP provides a drop-in facility in North Road's Shakespear Hall, to engage and involve these young people.  Again, to our surprise, Neil explained that homelessness was a significant, if largley hidden problem and DCCYP is able to "signpost" other, relevant, charities.
Have a look at their Facebook page to see the breadth of their activities.
