REPORT ON THE FINAL JUDGING FOR YOUNG WRITER MAY 2015

My overall thoughts after completing my first year as the R.I.B.I. Co-ordinator for YW are that this is an  excellent competition and I would hope that Clubs and Districts around G.B. and Ireland send out the message to schools, youth clubs and youth organizations that this competition is worthwhile and should be encouraged.  I have enjoyed running the final although it is hard work and look forward to the next competition with the theme, ‘Our World is Beautiful’.

YOUNG WRITER

The entries came from 23 Districts with a total of 56 submissions to the Final.  They are made up of 20 Juniors, 19 Intermediates and 17 Seniors.

The judging took place on Wednesday 27th May 2013.  The judges consisted of a Junior School Teacher, a former Director and teacher, Chair of the Essex Writers Guild and two senior librarians/writers. I will outline further details later.

It was decided to find a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category and an overall winner, second and third who will receive a prize and trophy.  There was also a number of Highly Commended who will receive a certificate denoting this.

The judges mentioned, ‘all entries were very good, interesting projects and ideas in the form of stories.  There was an element of disjointedness in some but overall all entries were very well done.’

Please ensure that even if individuals did not win they should be congratulated for reaching the Rotary National Final.
