A visit by the District Governor

Thu, Aug 4th 2016 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

DG Peter Chandler visited the Club.

District Governor Peter Chandler, with his wife Christine, made his first visit to our Club, and brought greetings from his Club at Stokesley.

Peter told us that he had received a message rom John Germ, President of Rotary International, and a member of the Rotary Club of Chattanooga, U.S.A. The President’s Theme for 2016-17 is “Rotary Serving Humanity” and we can do this in six areas of focus.

Throughout Rotary, Clubs and individuals are encouraged to give service by working in:

•    Peace & Conflict Resolution

•    Disease Prevention & Treatment

•    Water & Sanitation

•    Maternal & Child Health

•    Basic Education & Literacy

•    Economic & Community Development

President John Germ will give priority to the End Polio Now campaign. This year marks 100 years since the Rotary Foundation was started, and he urges us to mark this anniversary by finally eradicating Polio worldwide.

DG Peter introduced us to the Purple4Polio teddy bear. Purple has been chosen to remind us that purple dye on a finger indicates that vaccination has been done. He also told us about the thousands of purple crocus corms purchased to raise fund for the vaccination project.

Finally, DG Peter gave us information on the District project, “Fresh Start for Young Carers”. It is estimated that there are over 20,000 children in North East England who are caring for a family member. We look forward to supporting this project in the coming months.
