Visit to Bradford Odeon

Wed, Nov 22nd 2017 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

We will be taking a tour around the derelict Bradford Odeon prior to Bradford Live re-developing the building. ---------- Speaker Finder Gerald Sanderson, Visitor's Host, Grace & Banners Barrie Birch, Cash Desk Tony Gill

The date for this event has changed from the 15th to 22nd November at the request of Bradford Odeon. On 22nd November 2017th  Club members and their wives will forgather outside the Bradford Club to depart for 4.50pm for a visit to the Bradford Odeon. We are due at the Bradford Odeon at 5pm.

The Bradford Odeon is now owned by Bradford Live which is a not-for-profit charitable company formed in 2012 to find a long term viable use for the historic former Odeon building in Bradford city centre which has been derelict since 2000. At the end of 2014, following a rigorous competition, the Council awarded Bradford Live the right to re-develop the building. They have recently announced that the internationally renowned NEC Group International will become one of their operating partners.

Bradford Live aims to support the City’s rebirth and they believe that a revitalised Odeon can contribute to this end. The plan is to re-instate the original huge auditorium, creating the biggest ‘mid-size’ venue in the country outside London, with a capacity of 3,500 seated/ 4,000 with stalls standing. A venue of this size will attract national and international performers and its flexibility will also allow sporting events, corporate product launches exhibitions and conferences.

We will be shown around the building by Lee Craven of Bradford Live. Hopefully, Alan’s son Chris  Morell will be there as he is the project manager for Bradford Live and he will useful if his father Alan starts misbehaving.

The visit will end about 6.15 to 6.30 when we will return to the Bradford Club for our normal Club meeting.
The opportunity to visit the Bradford Odeon is being facilitated by Tony Emmott, currently the President of the Bradford Club and a member of the legendary Optimists Corner.

Car parking is available in the Broadway for £3. But we may be able to park at the Odeon. I will inform you later if that will be possible.

Next Wednesday I will be asking you if you can come on this trip; wives will be most welcome to attend this event as they are far better behaved than their husbands.

It might be possible when I have a grasp on numbers coming from Blaize that some people from The Bradford Club go too. I am working on the basis that 30 will be the maximum number we can take to the Odeon.
