Mon, Oct 15th 2018 at 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm

MEETING IN THE RESTAURANT TODAY

Tony's speaker today is local author Dave Andrews whose latest book is "Wilfred Owen - Poet of Oswestry".

Dave Andrews and his latest book

Dave will be talking about his 10th book, written to coincide with the centenary Wilfred Owen’s death in battle in 1918 which offers a profile of Oswestry’s most famous son and his posthumous rise to fame.

Jenni Holderness, Dave's Publicity Officer, who will be attending with him, says: "It is very interesting and readable and it fits very well into the preparations for the Wilfred Owen Festival.

"We will both be attending the World War One exhibition in the Memorial Hall from 3-10 November and many events leading up to the Wilfred Owen Festival."

Dave has previously visited to  talk about his last two books, 'The Oswestry Round' and 'Gobowen to Everest' which were written to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund for whom he is a Community Co-Ordinator. 'The Oswestry Round' is now the basis of an annual walking event 'The Oswestry Round Challenge' which has raised over £40,000 for the two charities Dave supports.

Dave and Jenni will bring copies of the book for sale at only £5.00 - another Christmas present sorted!
