Subject:
A visitor from Strawberry Field.
Speaker:
Allister Versfeld.
My name is Allister Versfeld and I am the Mission
Development Officer for Strawberry Field. I have been an Officer in the
Salvation Army for 20 years. Strawberry Field is known by many as 'the place
where John Lennon played'. The sight was made famous by the song Strawberry
Fields Forever. As a result of the connection between the Beatle's song, and
Strawberry Field the site, many have travelled from near and far to visit and
see the iconic Red Gates. The Salvation Army has had ownership of the
site since 1936 when it was opened as a children's home serving the most
vulnerable in the community of Liverpool. I will be taking you down the history
of Strawberry Field, sharing stories and explaining the significance of what we
do now as we continue to serve those most vulnerable in the community of Liverpool.
Club Officers of the Day:
Registration Officers: Nina Soni and Paul Soni.
Speaker Host/Vote of Thanks:Stephen Stocks.
Thought for the Day: Kris Strenkowski.
