In the last few years the Casterbridge club has provided support to the Great Dorset Bike Ride that is organised by the Dorchester Cycles shop and occurs on the first Sunday in June (5th). In fact it is organised very informally but it is the cycle shop who control and advertise the event.
Rotary Involvement - message from Richard Brind
This has involved being present at the start giving out route information, running a drink and snack stall at a point on the route, and being present at the finish to welcome riders home and give out certificates. Last year a significant sum was raised for Nepal earthquake relief (mainly from voluntary donations at the finish).
It is a very enjoyable day and it does raise the profile of Rotary as well as raising funds.
he cycle shop is very keen to keep the format the same as it has been for the last 40 years
The Casterbridge club has a lot on in May and June. Next year the diary will be even more pressed due to our plans for the marathon.
I wonder if Portland and Poundbury would like to join us this year in providing the support. And possibly in future years. I have all he material prepared from previous years so what is needed is a few volunteers to help man the stalls and be present at the start/finish. There will be some people from Casterbridge keen to volunteer as everyone who helped last year found it a very enjoyable and satisfying day.
