The cost of sending 7 families to Disneyland Paris together with accompanying medical support is more than £24,000 when factoring in the hotel, travel, park tickets, passports, travel insurance etc, and to raise the necessary money for this worthwhile project requires a number of fundraising events.
One such event in March 2019 was the Rotary Variety Performance at the Central Theatre in Chatham. Happily, as well as giving the audience a marvellous fun experience, there was a total of over £4,000 raised towards the Hospice Family Holidays.
As well as performances from Rock Choir, a magician, childrens dance academy, rock band and outstanding solo singers the audience was given an insight into the experience of the families who are guests on the holiday.
The 2019 families are all nominated from those supported by Ellenor Children’s Hospice. Ellenor provides hospice care and support to families facing terminal illness in Kent. Families who have a child supported by Ellenor Children’s Hospice can lead very difficult lives, spending much of their time worrying about their child’s health, and accompanying them to numerous hospital appointments and inpatient treatments. Inevitably, the prospect of a family holiday is frequently beyond their means physically, mentally and financially. For this reason, The Rotary Club of Medway organises an annual holiday to Disneyland Paris, funded by Rotary Children’s Hospice Family Holidays with the families’ needs cared for by self-funding Rotarians and sponsored Hospice medical staff. The trip in May 2019 comprises seven families able to benefit from the experience.
The following video outlines the benefit previous families have experienced.
