RETURNS AND MORE RETURNS

President John Fernie welcomed members and guests to the meeting on Tuesday 11th March before donning his Professorial hat to talk to members about the vagaries of goods being returned to suppliers in the ever-changing retail industry.
John, who lectured and has written a number of books on such subjects over the years, firstly explained some of the terms used to describe operations in this sector. For example, “omnichannel” describes how in modern times goods can be sent by return to online suppliers or physically returned to stores – irrespective of where and how they were purchased.
“Wardrobing” is now commonly used to describe buyers of clothing who will wear the item once then return it as “not a proper fit” or some other spurious excuse. (Some mutterings were heard from the ladies present when the John noted that it was mostly women who employed this ruse!)
