Speaker Denise Barna from Box Youth & Community Project

Denise visited on Zoom to give us an update on present activities. They have been extremely busy and the breadth of the work done was an eye opener to us. More details below, together with some pictures.


In addition to Denise, there are 5 part time works and 17 volunteers.

Work with 800 children includes: After school clubs 5 nights per week; Holiday club in school holidays; club for diabled children; Young volunteers including the Rotakids members; Doxford volunteers for 15 -19 year olds.  Project Gambia, where 45 children went there to carry out volunteer work; and Good Vibes for children with mental health problems.

Work with adults with learning difficulties for over 16's two nights per week for 60 people.

Work in the community:Lend a Hand project; Tidy up schemes in East Rainton in conjunction with the council; Mobile library service once a week; Furniture repair by 5 men, which is then sold to raise funds; training of volunteers; deliver food to old people in 35 households.

Harvey is a member of the Youth Parliament representing Sunderland.

This committee is concerned with the administration of the club. It incorporates: House; Registrar; Fellowship; Programme; Sport. The President Elect is usually the chairman of the committee, with other members taking a lead in each particular activity.

A collage of the seven cards we have on offer for sale in 2020.

Each year a new card is painted by Rotarian Randle Oliver. These are sold to friends as well as other Rotary club members to raise funds for Rotary Foundation and other charities, including our own Benevolent Fund.

This new community venture opened in August 2017. The meetings are held at 2.00 pm on the last Wednesday each month.
