Daniel Barton is an Explorer Leader in Greater Manchester East. H has been selected to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in S Korea in 2023 as an assistant unit leader in 1 of 2 units filled mostly by Scouts in our county. In total, going from the Greater Manchester East area are 63 young people (aged between 14 and 17 at the point of going) and 7 unit leaders. The World Scout Jamboree happens every 4 years and brings together approx 50,000 Scouts from over 150 countries and is an opportunity to promote peace and share cultures and ways of scouting from all around the world. To attend, members have to fundraise around £4,000 to cover everything that will happen over the roughly 3 week long trip.
As a previous participant, Daniel knows all too well what going to a World Scout Jamboree can offer to the young people. His confidence increased massively and he learnt skills he wouldn’t have otherwise. He experienced other peoples countries, tried lots of different foods, met lots of friends and much more.
He is looking forward to helping to lead his unit on what will be a truly once in a lifetime experience.
