At their Jog Presentation dinner the Rotary club gave donations to three very worthy causes from the proceeds of last year’s October jog.
In difficult circumstances joggers from most of Glossop raised £4600 which according to Barrie Powney, the event’s Organiser and Co-ordinator was a great result. To raise the cash joggers from most of the local schools ran around the course at the Pikes Lane Redgra and sports ground to complete as many laps as they could to achieve sponsorship. With a lap of approximately half a mile, the final distance covered was 2231, more than the length of the British isles.
Cups and shields were presented to schools and teams who participated as well as a special shield award to the pupil who raised the most sponsor money with £215.
Donations were presented by Barrie and Derek Scott, the Club President to:
the Glossop Mountain Rescue team with £2000 and thanks for their help on jog day and their commitment to those in distress on the surrounding hills.
Also an award was made to the Glossop Foodbank with £500 and to the Haywill Animal Rescue and Therapy Centre with £250. In addition the club will also be donating £500 towards a Rotary project on behalf of HUGS (Helping Uganda Girls School)
Barrie thanked all in attendance and gave an invitation for the 2023 Jog on Sunday 8th October
