Charlie Cox is the CEO
at The Youth Commission, Guernsey & Alderney. She will talk about
the support services available to Guernsey’s young people via The Youth
Commission:
Support – Emotional Wellbeing
Formally known as The HUB, the Support service area includes one-to-one work, mentoring and specialist work such as child exploitation and bereavement support. The team also offers targeted groups to develop resilience and peer relationships such as Indigo, SIBS and Bounce. Additionally, our newly formed LGBTQ+ youth group is the latest offer from our Support work.
Learning – Education & Skills
This service area is responsible for all our work with schools, including our Airtel-Vodafone internet safety lessons, Decider Skill training and the Prince’s Trust Achieve programme. The Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme also plays a huge part of the Youth Commission’s Learning offer.
Voice – Be Heard
Youth voice is extremely important to the Youth Commission and the Voice service area includes all our work aimed at improving the inclusion of young people in decision making. The Youth Forum is currently the key feature of this service area, with young people empowered to share their views on important subjects such as mental health, education and the environment.
Activities – Get Involved
This service area includes youth clubs delivered from the Youth Commission’s Centres across Guernsey and Alderney, as well as our Outreach support, Playscheme and youth engagement at events such as Guernsey’s North and West show.
Network – Membership & Training
An
ongoing area of development is the Youth
Commission’s Network membership scheme, which is open to any
organisation working with young people. Just some of the advantages of
being a member include access to Youth Commission buildings, training,
advice, DBS verification and loan of resources.
