Youth Speaks 2014

The annual Youth Speaks Competition was held at Redhill School on 30th January 2014

Every year, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland [Rotary GB&I] hold a national speaking competition for young people aged between 11 and 17. It does so because it recognizes that public speaking is an extremely important life skill - one that Rotarians value and of course the Rotary movement is always delighted to   support & celebrate expertise of young people.

This year, 2014, your local Rotary Club of Stourbridge has again agreed to sponsor local teams of 3 to take part in the Youth Speaks competition.

On Thursday 30th January 2014, 8 teams from Haybridge High School, King Edward VI Sixth Form College, Old Swinford Hospital School and Redhill School battled it out with their public speaking skills, in the Main Hall at Redhill School for a place in the next round. There were 2 categories, an Intermediate one for students aged 11 to 13 and a senior category for pupils aged between 14 and 17.

The teams spoke to themes of their own choice and the adjudicators were from the Rotary Club and Stourbridge Speakers Club.

Each team comprised a Chairperson who introduced the team and the topic, a speaker who presented the subject and a proposer of the vote of thanks who brought the team performance to a conclusion.

The winners in the Intermediate category were Saffron Rennison, Dan Keen and Ting Ding from Haybridge High School whose topic was
