Speaker: Max Durkin, St Mary's University College

Mon, Apr 25th 2016 at 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

We were delighted to welcome Max Durkin, Student Recruitment Officer, this week to tell us about St Mary's University which is located virtually on our doorstep.
Max gave us a most informative talk supported by the obligatory but very professional Powerpoint presentation.
St Mary's was established in 1850 as a Catholic teacher training college of just 6 students. It has grown today to accommodate the needs of around 6,000 undergraduate and post graduate students and has plans to expand still further.
It is still a centre of excellence for teacher training but is renowned for other accomplishments such as its fine business and sports teaching with Mo Farah and Matt Wells being counted amongst its former students.

Max revealed that he himself is a former student of St Mary's and his enthusiasm for the University clearly came across in his talk. It is something of which the Borough can be justifiably proud.
