Supporting Our Youth
Our youth programme includes the Primary Schools Quiz, Interview Experience Sessions for Academy students, Safer Cycling and Youth Camps & Leadership Camps
Primary School Quiz: Rotary's Annual Primary Schools Quiz attracts over 200 teams from the North of Scotland. Dingwall Rotarians hold 4 heats with up to 20 schools taking part. The winning team and the best runner up take part in the Area Final and the winner there progresses to the District Grand Final. The winner of this year's (2017) Club Final was Mulbuie Primary School. The team were presented with the winner's Quaich. Mulbuie came second at the Area Final and progressed to the Grand Final in the Beach Ballroom, Aberdeen where they achieved a superb 4th place against stiff opposition.
Interview Experience: Every year the Dingwall Rotarians use their expertise to let senior Academy students practice interview techniques. Rotarians make up panels of two of three and visit Dingwall, Fortrose, Alness and Gairloch Academies. We make the interviews as realistic as is possible and from the feed back received we know that the exercise is well received. This year (November 2017) we have interviewed more than 120 pupils from the four Academies
Safer Cycling: The P5 pupils at Dingwall Primary School are given a 6-week cycling course to fit them for cycling outside the school. Each pupil receives a certificate and a badge and the difference in safety skills from day one to the end is very evident.
Ben Wyvis Primary Gardening: We purchased a poly-tunnel for the pupils at Ben Wyvis Prfimary School and under the guidance of Tom Thomas (adopted by the school as their mentor) the children will learn how to grow plants for food and decoration. Already, the pupils are keen to learn and are anxious to see the results of their efforts.
