Speaker: Mark Smith. Subject: Men's Sheds - Progress in Guernsey.


The international organisation of "Men's Sheds", also known as "The Shedders", provides invaluable help to the health and social challenges of men in their 'mature years'**, when they surprisingly  become one of the highest suicide risk groups.

Rotarians may remember the YouTube link sent by John Hollis following a presentation in October 2016 on this at Guernsey's Thrive 2020 Conference. Since that time, much progress has been made in establishing the first 'Men's Shed' in Guernsey, with thoughts already emerging about a second.

Mark Smith will summarise the reasons for the initiative, the linkages to other local groups such as MUG and HSC, and progress so far.


**membership is encouraged from men of all ages, across a wide spectrum of our society with particular value being drawn from older men "mentoring" younger men...passing in skills, wisdom etc.

Younger men may in particular be in recovery from an addiction, uncertain identity, lack of purpose, belonging .....
