This week we were delighted to welcome Ed Harris who came along to tell us about the Twickenham Museum. The museum is situated at 25 The Embankment, Twickenham and due to planning restrictions on notice boards could easily be missed by the casual passer-by. It is however well worth a visit. The house was bequeathed for use as the local museum in 1994. Space is an important consideration and, after several years of operation, the building has recently gone through what Ed, who is a trustee, described as a “transition” resulting in the relocation of the reception desk, improved internal lighting and storage, updated computer facilities and generally making the best use of the space available. The museum houses maps and artefacts not just of Twickenham but of Whitton, Teddington and the Hamptons as well. It is particularly keen to feature the people associated with the area and where they lived. As the museum can accommodate only a fraction of our recorded past, its reach is extended by the website http://www.twickenham-museum.org.uk/
A most interesting talk about a local gem.
