Roborough Rotarian IAN PARKER receives RBI award at House of Lords
After years of service to his community locally and internationally Ian was recognised by Rotary International Britain and Ireland with the 'Champion of Change' award for his work supporting education overseas.
Our Club saw Rotary's 'Champion of Change Award' as a great opportunity to recognise the work done by Ian in his role of Chairman of Literacy in a Box Trust. The Club has already recognised him with a Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow award.
In launching the Champion of Change Award Rotary GB&I President (14-15) Nan McCreadie said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise Rotarians who give their time and talents to help communities at a time when they need it most. Rotarians come from all walks of life, they are men and women who want to make a difference.”
Over many years he has gained backing from Rotary, Interact, Rotakids & Inner Wheel Clubs both in the UK and overseas as well as many other organisations and individuals. The role was to support the work done on the ground by many non-Rotary organisations to give education in areas of need mainly in Zambia. However, the Trust's support has also spread to schools in Philippines, Zimbabwe, Kenya Nepal, South Africa and Ghana.
Ian praised the hard work of all the agencies he has been fortunate to be able to support and thanked the many who have supported Literacy In A Box financially.
