My Rotary - As the first female member in Aldridge
I joined the club in 2012 as the first female member, I was worried about what it would be like but I was warmly welcomed and know I made the right decision.thumbnail view
My family had been involved in service organisations in the past and were very involved in Rotary. But at that time the club in Aldridge only had male members. I wanted to get involved having been in the Brownies, Guides and Sea Cadets - I enjoy socialising as part of a group but also like to be able to give something back and make a difference, but i wasn't sure if the group dynamics would change and it would be awkward if I joined.
I definitely need not have worried - I was welcomed immediately and treated just like every other member. We have a lot of laughs and plenty of banter at our weekly meetings and we now have more female members too.
I never imagined that within 5 years of my joining the club I would become the President, another first. There are lots of events that I have been able to involve my family in and even when my children were younger there was plenty to get involved with. I really enjoy being part of Rotary in Aldridge, why not get in touch and see what we've got to offer. There is something for everyone.
