Steve Hopcroft Head of Player Talent ID at Aston Villa

Postponed. Since 2019 Steve has been head of academy recruitment at Aston Villa. In his 1st season the youth team won the FA Youth Cup for the first time in 25 years breaking the 15 year dominance by the Big 4 – Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool & Man Utd.


Steve has worked in the Academy Department at 3 of the 4 biggest Midlands clubs over the past 25yrs he has personally overseen the procurement and performance of some of the West Midlands most exciting talents.

Starting at Birmingham City under manager, Trevor Francis and then Steve Bruce he oversaw the recruitment of England Players Demari Gray (Everton), Nathan Redmond (Southampton) and Jack Butland (Crystal Palace) whilst working under Karren Brady, David Sullivan and David Gold.

Moving onto West Bromwich Albion FC in the early 2000’s he worked for 14 seasons under managers Bryan Robson, Tony Mowbray, Roberto Di Matteo and Steve Clarke to name a few. Witnessing the ‘Booing’ effect of several relegation and promotions and the subsequent sale of the club by Jeremy Peace to new Chinese owners.

In 2019 he moved across the City to Aston Villa FC where he currently sits as The Head of Academy Recruitment.

Rotary@Kingsholm has discovered that Gloucester City as only 3 accessible defibrillators. This is the lowest number in the country. A new defibrillator costs about £2200. Our aim during the next 12 months is to raise enough money to double that number.

Longfield Hospice provides end of life support at home to reduce the demand on NHS beds. Recognising how It is vital that the hospice continues its work to help vulnerable people in need, we were happy to make a donation to their funds.
