Townhouse

The middle generation of three generations of a remarkable Penson dynasty of local architects and engineers, Thomas Penson 'the Younger' (1790-1859) was County Surveyor for Montgomeryshire and for Denbighshire and the successful architect of many bridges and public buildings, including, in Oswestry, the old National School* on Welsh Walls, Holy Trinity church and the Cross Market latterly the Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

Thomas' career was fraught with argument and controversy and his family life with tragedy and scandal!

Frances Ward, Local Historian and Editor

David and Frances Ward run the Meifod Local History Group and contributed to the Thomas Penson exhibition shown in Oswestry museum last autumn.

* The old National School building was, until recently, the home of The Walls restaurant where this Rotary Club met for several years until its closure.
