May Fair 2017: waiting for rain?
April showers bring May flowers or in our case April drought brought heavy downpours!
May 1st was a delight for gardeners but a worry for those of us trying to run stalls at the Beddington Fayre. However, not to be put off by forecasts of biblical proportions, we laid out our wares and after a slow start the sun shone and the customers arrived.
To our amazement and great delight our takings for the day superseded earlier expectations. Richard and Anne Ford’s Water and Wine Stall raised £175.50 and the Tombola Stall £364.50, making a grand total of £540.
The wonderful success of the day was undoubtedly down to the support of club members in both supplying prizes and bottles of wine before hand – nearly 200 were donated for both the children and adults sections – and for helping on the day. Putting up and taking down gazebos and tables in the rain is not fun but our brilliant construction team of Roger and Loraine Davis, Steve Kirkman and John and Margaret Dale did us proud.
Besides Richard’s many empty bottles one prize does remain from the Tombola Stall – ‘Five Go to Brexit Island”...
