Barry Buttenshaw, Member of the Rotary Club of Twickenham, has put together a talk about his experiences as a bomb disposal officer.
From 2015 he has travelled widely, at his own expense, to give this talk to Rotary Clubs and other group meetings. All that he asked for in return was a donation of any amount to the End Polio Now campaign. His aim was to raise enough money to inoculate 100,000 children by the end of 2017.
On 01 July 2017, he gave this report to his Club:
“In 2015/16, I made 51 presentations which brought in £4,290:50 which, when taking into consideration the Gates double donation, enabled 77,220 children to be inoculated against Polio. I therefore set a target of 100,000 by the end of 2017.
“In the first six months of 2017 I have given 19 presentations, driven 846.6 miles and raised £1,368 (with one club still to send in their donation) which inoculates a further 24,624 children.
"So, I have reached my target with 101,844 children before the end of June. I am now looking to the next 100,000.”
On 06 July, the Twickenham Club posted an article on their Facebook Page which included a photo of Barry next to Rotary GB&I President Denis Spiller’s car. This can be found at https://www.facebook.com/twickenhamrotary/
So, it is with pleasure that we welcome Barry to our annual Partners' Lunch.
