Sadly heavy overnight rain spoiled plans for AKRCs annual Duck Race, causing it to be cancelled on Duck safety grounds, as Stock Ghyll Beck was in full spate at the appointed time of 2.00pm on Sunday 16th. Even a sure footed plastic duck would have struggled against the force of water!
An alternative ‘Virtual Duck Race’ was assembled in front of a small crowd, with 4 x heats and a Final race run, to determine the winner in the time honoured way of drawing tickets from a bucket .
Winner of the 2017 race, local Joan Graham, was present as the celebrity to draw out the overall winner for 2018 – a lady from Blackpool, who was delighted to hear of her windfall of £200!
Sincere thanks go to Ambleside Co-op branch for sponsoring the prize money and other expenses from their Local Community Fund.
A valuable £1588 was raised for Alzheimer’s Research UK charity. Thanks to Rtn Colin Fell as chief Duck organiser and all who took part. Hoping for better weather next year.
