Pink 5K 2022

Another happy Pink5k Walk & Afternoon Tea
this year in aid of Bowel Cancer UK

This year, having been inspired by Dame Deborah James who sadly passed away in June, our Pink5K Walk and Afternoon Tea was in aid of Bowel Cancer UK  https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk

Sadly, right now, almost half of adults in the UK are unable to name a single symptom of bowel cancer, despite it being the fourth most common cancer. Knowing the symptoms, and acting on them, means that bowel cancer can be diagnosed earlier when it is more treatable and curable. Sadly, fewer than 40% of people are diagnosed at the earliest stages.

We were delighted that over 70 participants, plus some 4 legged friends, signed up and ultimately helped to save more lives by walking from Ambleside to Pelter Bridge and back under Loughrigg, once again bringing Pink Bling & Sparkle to Ambleside and raising much needed funds for such a worthy cause. Some had taken part in one of our previous walks for cancer charities, others were taking part for the first time, and some were happy holiday makers who had 'just seen the signs so joined in'!

Needless to say, Tea & Cream Scones were a very welcome ‘Thank You’ upon their return to Ambleside Parish Centre!

Our thanks to Ambleside & Windermere Freemasons for their sponsorship. Windermere Lake Cruises and Stiles Coffee House for fancy dress prizes and to the wonderful folk at FoxGhyll Country House who have very generously donated all their ice cream sales to us for Bowel Cancer UK.

We are still receiving donations but over £1,500 has been raised to date – an final updated amount will be advised ASAP
