December began with a most interesting illustrated talk by Jeremy Hall from Peter Hall & Son furniture makers, restorers and upholsterers of Staveley & Windermere. Now in its third generation we were given an insight into the history and philosophy of the family business. The full history from Peter’s flying career as a World War II aerial photographer and later a flying ace fighter pilot awarded with a Distinguished Flying Cross & Bar to the third generation of this talented family can be found at https://www.peter-hall.co.uk
The family firm was also responsible for the refurbishment of SY Gondola on Lake Coniston. As well as refurbishing the ceiling and re-upholstering the luxurious seating in Gondola’s first class saloon, the National Trust commissioned Peter Hall & Son to undertake the work to replace the striking sea serpent, affectionately known as Sid, which adorns the prow. Sadly, the old Sid had rotted to the core having been battered by over 35 years of Lakeland weather.
