As briefly reported in our ‘Summer get-together at Brathay’ August got off to a great start with our ‘Presidents Change Over Evening’. Not so much a ‘change over’ but a thank you to Val for leading us through a most unprecedented year and for agreeing to take on the mantel once again for our current year. It was, as usual, a happy evening of chat, banter, delicious food but most importantly meeting up in person again.
Our meetings continued, via zoom, with a presentation from John Miles on Rotary Global Sight Solutions. The charity has established more than 50 Rotary-run eye hospitals in the developing world. More info on this evening to follow.
Our second speaker for the month was Molly Hogg, Project Manager of Cumbria action for Sustainability. (CAfS) https://cafs.org.uk
Molly joined CAfS in 2020, initially to support Ambleside’s sustainability ambitions.
Molly outlined the charity’s vision, including practical help available to bring about a more sustainable way of life in Cumbria. Working closely with Ambleside’s own Ambleside Action for a Future https://aafaf.uk to empower and enable people, communities and businesses to live and work more sustainably by sharing knowledge, practice, skills, networks and practical experience and for us all to reduce our carbon footprint.
We are delighted that we can once again start our fund-raising events and are full steam ahead for our PINK 5K WALK on Sunday September 26th in aid of St Marys Hospice. Full details www.pink5k.co.uk
