Community Tree Planting
Friday 4th and Saturday 5th March saw a major tree planting event at St Catherine's Park on the eastern side of Todd Lane South, in Lostock Hall. Just under 800 trees were planted, by Preston South Rotarians ably abetted by Rotarians from both the South Ribble and Leyland Rotary Clubs. However what was really pleasing to see was the involvement of 2 primary schools - Walton-le-Dale and Longton by their respective Preston South Rota Kids clubs. Such energy and ethusiasm.
The majority of the planting was of whips (really just a "twig" with a few roots) with a few standard trees and holly bushes. So despite appearances not that much digging, but still complaints from members of back ache!
All in in all the weather stayed fine and despite some squelching in the mud in some more boggy areas the trees were planted with time to spare.
We just have to wait for a few years to measure our sucess.
We know that the Borough Council has ambitious plans to plant thousands of trees and we are looking forward to helping out again in the next planting season later in 2022.
