ROTARY U12's FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2022
After the Covid enforced break, Wednesday 25th May saw the U12's 6-a-side Football Tournament hosted by Preston South Rotary Club relaunched at the AFC Fylde Sports Centre. As with previous years we had another very successful day. We had 24 mixed gender teams (that's 240 pupils and their teachers) from schools across the Lancashire Area of Rotary District 1190 from Lancaster down to Chorley and Clitheroe across to the Fylde Coast.
The day started with pouring rain and a biting wind but by the time of the games the sun had come out and play could commence. The games were held in a highly competitive yet sporting manner with players exhibiting great skill and endeavour for their team and school. Their on and off-field behaviour was exemplary, a credit to their respective schools and teachers.
After a series of qualification matches we moved on to semi-finals which were contested between Southlands (Chorley) vs Central Lancs High (Lancaster) and All Hallows (Penwortham) vs Broughton High. The Final was contested by Southlands and All Hallows and was a very close game with a narrow 1-0 win for All Hallows.
We owe special thanks to the Yr10 pupils from the schools who refereed the matches - again in a balanced and professional way.
We had a number of spectators including Assistant District Governor Kath Bromilow, (See her comments), Youth Lead Antony Chick and Sports Organiser Mike Hindle as well as parents and grand parents supporting the event.
Special thanks must go to Preston South's lead Rotarian for the event Geoff Todhunter who oversaw a terrific day of sport.
Finally a BIG THANK YOU to Rotary District 1190 for providing funds for the event, to the County Council for it's donation and to the following local Rotary Clubs for thier financial support :- Longridge and North Preston; Preston; Preston Amounderness; Fleetwood; Garstang & Over Wyre and South Ribble.
