Help Rotary free the world from polio

The world stands on the brink of the complete eradication of Polio. With your help we can end this dreadful disease for ever. Together we can make history

POLIO: THE FACTS

Polio has no cure which means immunisation programmes are essential to prevent children from contracting this disease.  Until polio is eradicated children everywhere are at risk.

For more than 30 years Rotary has been working hard to rid the world of this terrible disease which kills or severely disables children.

Rotary started its campaign to rid the world of polio in 1985 and at that time Polio was endemic in 125 countries.  Today, it’s in only two: Pakistan and Afghanistan.

HELP ROTARY FREE THE WORLD FROM POLIO

Since 1988 Polio cases across the world have been reduced by 99.9% and over 2.5 billion children have been immunised.

IT COSTS JUST 20p TO IMMUNISE A CHILD

For every £1 Rotary raises, FIFTEEN children can be protected for life.   How is that when it costs 20p per child?   It’s because for every £1 Rotary raises, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matches it 2-to-1 so £1 becomes £3 and for £3 fifteen children can be immunised.

To declare the world Polio free, there must be three years without any new cases being reported.  Remote and rural areas in Pakistan and Afghanistan are hard to reach but Rotary is continuing to fund immunisation programmes in these areas to rid them of Polio.

If the global campaign fails because of the lack of funds, Polio would return to pandemic levels in less than 10 years.  There would be up to 200,000 new cases of paralysis every year in countries which have long been free of the disease.
