On 17 April we held our fellowship meeting at the recently refurbished Fox and Raven pub and restaurant, Springfield. First listed in 1851 as Barnes Farm farmhouse and now a Grade 2 listed building, it was once the home to our former member and President Robert Fleming and his family. Thanks to Mo Sadiq and Keith Otter for setting this up.
It was our first Club visit to the premises and they accommodated us in a comfortable private room adjacent to the main bar. The location ticked many boxes for future visits. However food service was very slow despite the fact we had preordered our meals and there were few other customers present. Perhaps they thought we were discussing business between courses! This could in future be overcome by restricting ourselves to two courses from the set menu only.
It was nevertheless a convivial meeting with lots of laughter and conversation. The slow service meant that we had all finished our drinks by the time it came to the loyal toast. A source of amusement but the thought and sincerity was there. Hopefully this could be a venue for future occasions and its location certainly suits many of our members who live that side of the city.
