Ilkley Last Night at the Proms 2007

The weather remained kind and members, wives and friends enjoyed a convivial evening of outdoor entertainment on the Grove at Ilkley.

The entertainment commenced with country singing by The Palmettos followed by two very talented youngsters. Firstly Donna Marie with some excellent operatic arias followed by Jonathan who although only 15 years old gave some excellent renditions on the violin.

Then came the usual grand finale from the Marsden Brass band who entertained with many old favourites including “On Ilkla moor bah’t at” as well as a selection from the last Night at the Proms. But before Sir Henry Moore’s usual jingoistic sing along the audience were in for a special treat as a team of Cancan dancers appeared in full regalia. This had Mike Lynes bounding up like Zebedee to ensure he had a good view.

The evening was rounded off by a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture complete with a firework display on Ilkley Moor. Unfortunately as last year most of the firework display was obscured by the trees leaving the residents of Middleton to better enjoy their beauty than the attendees at the concert.
