Many of the children in Bradford’s inner schools come from abroad and the language they speak at home is not English.
To assist primary schools in their endeavours to improve the ability of their pupils to ready and speak English the Rotary Club of Bradford Blaize this year has provide nearly 200 dictionaries 4 life to three primary schools in inner Bradford.
The last school to receive these dictionaries was Bowling Primary School.
Other schools who received the dictionaries 4 life were:
Rycroft Academy:
Bankfoot Primary and
St Joseph’s RC Primary.
The dictionary 4 life is an illustrated dictionary making it easier to use.
On Wednesday 16th September the President of the Rotary Club of Bradford Blaize presented 90 copies of illustrated dictionaries to pupils of the sixth year of Bowling Primary School. Each dictionary becomes the property of each pupil and bears their name. However, some of the children who have received these dictionaries have told their teachers that their parents also make use of them. For many of the pupils this will be the first English book they own. It is hoped that the long term benefit of the dictionaries will be that enable the pupils in the school to improve their chances of upward social mobility.
