A poster about UK AidThe speaker who joined us online this week was Sophie Willis, who talked about Chelmsford Chooses Love. It is one of a number of similar groups around the country originally set up to campaign for the maintenance of the UK’s overseas aid. They draw attention to such issues as the refugee and climate crises and also support local charitable efforts.

Their activities include:

  • running street stalls and speaking to members of the public;
  • organising and attending local and online events, such as speaker events and photography exhibitions;
  • contributing to local radio and media and social media; and
  • encouraging people to contact their local MPs to express their views.

They will run their first street stall in Chelmsford on Saturday, 17 July.

Sophie was speaking to us from her car in a car park in Norwich, where she had gone to run a street stall. Unfortunately she was unable to complete her presentation because her Internet link failed in the middle. [I’d been thinking how well her mobile broadband was holding up, too. Webmaster]
