Rtn Sara Arun: Job talk

Today it was the turn of Sara Arun to give us her job talk.

Sara was born and brought up in Malaysia. As a young woman she came to the UK to study nursing in Grimsby. There were a number of other Malaysians studying nursing there at the time.

They all found the weather in Grimsby uncongenial. On qualifying Sara moved to Kent and went on to qualify in paediatric nursing and in midwifery. She worked at Guy’s Hospital for some years before moving to Chelmsford.

She became a ward sister at Broomfield Hospital, eventually leaving there to work as a specialist paediatric community nurse for mid-Essex. She moved to one of the villages, where she is heavily involved with the local community.

She played badminton until fairly recently, which brought her into contact with our member Mo Sadiq. After retiring she took up his suggestion that she join our Club.

At this meeting we also welcomed back member Chuda Karki after his extended trip to Nepal, where he visited the projects we have supported. Perhaps the most welcome news he brought was that, encouraged by the example of our Club and local Rotarians, the Mayor of Ratnanagar offered to provide from Council funds 50 solar panels for a refurbished school serving the Chepang community and meet the cost of a new school on a nearby site already purchased by the Rotary Club of Ratnanagar.

Now Chuda has finally returned from Nepal, President Peter was at last able to present him with the Harry Hatcher Shield for 2021. This is awarded each year to the Club member other members judge to have made the greatest contribution to the Club, Rotary or the community. Our hearty congratulations to Chuda.
