On 29 June, a fundraising dinner was held at Britannia Spice for three pupils of Drummond Community High School going on the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards programme (RYLA). This year five exceptional pupils were identified, rather than the usual two, including two recently arrived from Ukraine. It costs £650 to send one person on a RYLA course, so to fund the three additional places it was decided to organise a fundraising dinner at award-winning Britannia Spice in Leith, owned by our member Walli Udin. On the evening 84 people attended and over £2,000 was raised. During the course of the evening, two former pupils of Drummond High who had previously attended RYLA courses, Maria Correia and Yatika Dhringa, gave inspirational speeches about the positive impact being on the course had on their lives. Both have gone on to have successful academic careers, recently graduating from university.
