UNESCO CHAIR - GLOBAL HEALTH AND EDUCATION

In 2022 the Rotary club of Mirfield in collaboration with the University of Huddersfield confirmed the interest of their organisation in the work of the UNESCO Chair and WHO Collaborating Centre ’Global Health & Education’. Its vision is to create the conditions for children and young people to take charge of their lives: as individuals, as members of their community and as global citizens for all matters related to health.

The UNESCO Chair operates as an open community and is a space for dialogue and action in the field of prevention, health education and health promotion. Its role is to create a framework where all actors in the field can meet around common projects, create visibility and contribute to the work of the United Nations. The activities of the Chair are focused on producing and sharing knowledge in order to contribute to social change for the health of children and young people.

The 4 objectives of the UNESCO Chair are:

·         to create a global community;

·         to produce knowledge;

·         to develop capacity;

·         to communicate and share knowledge.

See their website for more information:  https://unescochair-ghe.org/

The Rotary club of Mirfield shares the Chair’s vision and objectives and intends to continue to contribute to the objectives of the UNESCO Chair by joining the community.

Rotary’s ideal of service are based on the 5 areas of service which include club, community, International, new generations and vocational service. Vocational service involves empowering others by using their unique skills and expertise to address community needs and help others discover new professional opportunities and interests.

In addition Rotary’s 6 areas of focus include child health, basic education and literacy and community development.
