Stephen Ellis the District 1040 Governor had the honour of representing Rotarians across Yorkshire and
North Lincolnshire as he named the D-859 Lifeboat "The Rotarian".

D-Class Lifeboat The Rotarian at Filey Lifeboat Station on Saturday 14th May 2022
Also pictured was Pat Taylor in her role of District 1040 Youth leader.

In 2018 the then DG Nigel Arthurs was in office when over 100 Rotary Clubs in District 1040 made the decision
to try and raise as much money as possible towards the cost of a new lifeboat.
Within a year and under the leadership of  DG Manoj, Rotarians and Rotary Clubs had pledged or made
donations in excess of £10,000.
In the end over £35,000 was raised towards the cost of the Lifeboat by Rotary.
The total cost of the lifeboat was £85,000.

To Rotaries surprise and pleasure, the RNLI announced that the next D class lifeboat would be
based in Filey; within District 1040.
The pandemic intervened and fundraising was severely curtailed. DG Andrew Bateman led Rotary
through this time and still donations came though for the RNLI.

On Saturday DG Stephen Ellis finally had the pleasure of leading the naming and dedication
of the new lifeboat.
