Treekly is an international charity that plants a tree in a deforested area of the world every time one of its subscribers walks 5000 or more steps in a day. The Rotary Cambridge Treekly group has walked 224 million steps and sponsored the planting of over 7750 trees as at August 2023, more than any other group in Rotary Great Britain & Ireland
Most of our trees are planted to extend mangrove swamps in Madagascar, where 90% of the primary forests have been destroyed. Mangroves are better at trapping CO2 than rainforests, protect against coastal erosion and tsunamis and improve wildlife habitats and water quality. The project gives fair wage employment to local people who plant and protect the trees.
Treekly also operates in Indonesia, Mozambique, Kenya, Brazil and Haiti, all areas that have been subject to intense deforestation and degradation of the environment. Click here to learn more
