Our club has been busy in the local community
Our President, John Reid, was out and about on Saturday 29 April. First
at the 26th Annual Thanet Schools' Rugby Festival, one of the biggest in Kent.
We were at Thanet Wanderers ground along with 150 boys and girls, 19 teams and
14 schools enjoying their rugby without worrying whether they won or lost. No
scores are recorded and the emphasis in on fun.
Thanet Rotary have been supporting this event for a number of years and
sponsor the medals awarded to all the children. Having first awarded himself a
medal, a President can never wear too much bling, John went on to award medals
and adjudicate a parade of banners for the rugby playing nations. Samoa
won. It was a fun day and a pleasure to meet Gary Rees the event organiser and
Chris Pantell Chairman of Thanet Wanderers. (The first XV were playing in a cup
semi final later that day and we are delighted to report that they won.)
We then moved on the St Paul's Church in Cliftonville where Thanet Foodlink were marking 10 years since their founding. They do amazing work supporting families in crisis with food and a link to other services which can help. Thanet Rotary has donated some £3,500 to Foodlink over the last 3 years. We have helped other foodbanks and are ready to do more.
All this as our President limbers up for the Rotary International Weekend ( 19 to 21 May) when club members, their families and friends welcome fellow Rotarians from Comines in Belgium and Bourbourg in France (reception on the Friday, trip to Greenwich and then dinner at North Foreland Golf Course on the Saturday and concluding with the President's lunch on the Sunday).

'What We Do' Main Pages:
Rotary Club of Thanet, in partnership with Ramsgate Boxing Club, organised hugely successful boxing nights raising almost £450,000. A substantial sum which was deployed to good effect.

The Rotary Club of Thanet has raised £636.50 through Graham Channon who was last year’s Master at Arms. At Grahams discretion this amount was donated to The MS Society, a charity close to his and our members hearts.
