District Governor visits Penicuik

Presentation to Special Olympics fund and District Governors visit

A very busy meeting tonight 22 November 2016.

We had a visit from District Governor Olive Geddes but the evening commenced with the handover of a cheque for £825 from the club towards the expenses of the Penicuik competitors in next year's Special Olympics in Sheffield.

The cheque was received by Lisa Wilkie who will compete in the short mat bowling. Lisa was accompanied by Yvonne Hay Chair of Lothians Special Olympics.

The funds were raised at our Classical Youth Concert in October which itself arose from a suggestion by the family of Marcus Swietlicki as a means of thanking the club for the support given to Marcus during the Rotary Young Musician Competition. What goes around comes around.

After a delicious meal there was a short presentation by Junior Vice President Rhona Somerville. Rhona spoke about the clubs long standing initiative to provide those who are home and alone on Christmas Day with a Christmas Dinner and for a short space of time, some company.

Then it was over to DG Olive who talked about her Rotary experiences, the changes within Rotary, the importance of keeping records of projects and the different ways in which prospective new members can participate in Rotary.

After a few questions from the members for Olive, club President Reg Dunbar thanked Olive for her visit and presentation. Then it was time to draw the raffle won this time by club Treasurer, Les Dalgleish who presented the prize to DG Olive.

The meeting closed with the final toast 'Rotary Serving Humanity'.

Another full and varied evening at Rotary Club of Penicuik.
