Whisky Tasting by Zoom
On Saturday 16th January we had a very successful whisky tasting by Zoom. Over 45 members and friends took part and tasted four whiskies which had been especially selected for the occasion.
The four whiskies were:
Arran Bothy Quarter cask 56.2% Bourbon cask
Glen Moray 15yo 40% Bourbon and sherry casks
Glen Ord 8y by James Eadie 53.7% Sherry cask
Kilchoman 100% Islay 50% Mostly bourbon, light peat
We are grateful to Sam at Royal Mile Whiskies for his assistance in selecting the whiskies and to his colleague Arthur for delivering them to Penicuik.
In the days prior to the event a 30ml measure of each whisky was decanted into small numbered bottles. These bottles were then safely delivered by club members to the participants.
After each tasting there was a breakout session into small groups to discuss the whisky, socialise and get to know one another. There was also a quiz with rounds taking place between tastings. Throughout the evening silent bids were being made for another bottle of whisky, a 12 year old Highland Park, that had been donated by a club member. At the end of the evening there was an auction of the whisky remaining in each of the original bottles.
The format for the evening using Zoom was very much an experiment but it seemed successful and could be duplicated for other types of drink. It was a very enjoyable and social night which after expenses is estimated to have raised around £700 for our Charitable Trust fund.
