Hythe & Waterside 'Lend with Care'

November 2020 Update

The Rotary Club of Hythe and Waterside are always looking out for ways to help those less fortunate in the world.

We have become involved in Lendwithcare which brings together entrepreneurs in developing countries with people who have the money and the will to help them. Run by one of the world's leading aid and development organisations, Lendwithcare is a revolutionary way to help people in the developing world to transform their lives.

Whether it's opening a market stall, or perhaps a small tailoring business, or increasing the crops they grow, people across the developing world are bursting with business ideas – all they need is a helping hand to get started. Once started they may need help to expand or diversify their business.

Entrepreneurs approach a local Microfinance Institution (MFI) that is a Lendwithcare partner and, if their ideas show promise, they get the go-ahead for the loan they need.

The MFI uploads the entrepreneur’s profile to Lendwithcare. You can see these in the Entrepreneurs section, and you can choose which promising business idea you’d like to support. Generally we invest about £45 so there are multiple investors in each loan.

The entrepreneur pays back their loan in instalments to the MFI, which transfers these repayments to CARE International. The cash is then credited to your Lendwithcare account. It’s as simple as that!

When your loan is repaid you can withdraw it if you wish. You can donate it to CARE International to help with running costs, or you can make another loan, helping more entrepreneurs turn their ideas and hopes for a better future into reality.

Hythe and Waterside Rotary Club first invested in Lendwithcare in 2018. Most loans requested are between 2-5 thousand pounds. We have been involved in 56 loans and currently are helping 39 more people. The beneficiaries are both male and female. We have just helped people in Rwanda, Equador,Peru and Cambodia. More scaffolding for a builder, pig food for a smallholder, more land for a rice farmer, stock for a bazaar at home, the list is endless and varied.

No-one has defaulted on our loans. When they are repaid we can help someone else.

If you would like to see more about Lendwithcare visit the website https://lendwithcare.org.

You can invest yourself but if you would like the Rotary Club to do it for you please contact us at ?????????
